This flamboyant and unique sports facility in Moscow was built using BIM technologies and won the prestigious MIPIM Awards in the category "Best cultural and sports facility" in 2020. The development of the project began in 2016, the construction began in May 2017 and the grand opening took place on June 18, 2019.
The building project covers an area of 23.500 m2, with 5 aboveground and 1 underground floor, the facade with the height 25-26 m is completely glazed. The geometry of the roof reminiscents of a flying gymnastic ribbon. The main part of the complex is occupied by an arena with a floor area of 54x36 m. During ta competition, the hall can simultaneously accommodate 250 athletes and up to 4000 spectators.
In addition, the copmlex houses 3 training halls, a sauna, a dining room and wardrobes for athletes, 2 choreographic halls, a gym, and a medical rehabilitation center. For large competitions, for the convenience of participants, the Palace of Gymnastics has a mini-hotel that can accommodate up to 113 people at a time. In the decoration of the lobbies of the Palace of Gymnastics, mosaics with an individual design were used - using patterns from Russian traditional paintings.
At our R&D center in Slovenia, a CFD analysis of the main arena was carried out for this object. Problematic was especially the high air flow rate over the gymnastics mat area. After the installation of all the equipment supplied according to all the necessary calculations, including CFD analysis, the tests showed that the air stream does not in any way affect the movement of the gymnastic ribbons. Also smoke tests showed excellent operation of the ventilation system in full.
Various air distribution units were supplied to this facility - linear grilles for supplying air directly to the working area, slot diffusers in VIP zones, lobby and restaurants. In addition, swirl diffusers and floor convectors were supplied for heating of the premises and prevention of condensation on the façade glazing. Since the training halls had a large ceiling height, and it was impossible to reduce the installation height of the diffusers due to the transformation of the walls, it was decided to install long range swirl diffusers with a high air flow rate in these rooms.
