Hotel InterContinental in Ljubljana excels in many different ways: with its 19 floors it is not only the tallest hotel building in the Slovenian capital with a stunning panoramic city view, it is also the first five-star star hotel, offering a luxury stay in one of the Europe's growingly trendy tourist destinations. The decision to choose our company as the supplier of the complete ventilation solution may therefore not come as a surprise. Whether the guests are enjoying a tasty treat in the stylish rooftop restaurant, meet up with friends and partners in the chic Lounge or Executive Club or just relax in the spa – they are always surrounded with the best indoor climate.
The spatious and airy lobby is warmingly inviting guests to enter, while floor convectors with forced convection for heating and cooling prevent the intrusion of cold outdoor air and heat up the premises in winter season. In the summer the same convectors are used for cooling of the entrance hall. Air is supplied through custom painted ventilating grilles.
For the ventilation and air conditioning of all luxury hotel rooms with marble bathrooms, 13 indoor air handling units are installed, allowing adaptation to the varying occupancy of the rooms and thus efficiently saving energy in all operating regimes, regardless of the season. In the bedrooms floor convectors with natural convection are used as a completely silent and aesthetical heating solution. A special narrow model of slot diffusers is used for air supply in corridors, visually complementing the clean lines of interior design.
Designed for the ultimate pampering, the hotel's spa & wellness on the 18th floor boasts a swimming pool with a breath taking view of the Alps. A comfortable climate is provided by a modular air handling unit in swimming pool version, ensuring a pleasant temperature and humidity level in all operating regimes. Floor slot diffusers are efficiently preventing condensation on panoramic windows, while being discreetly integrated in the elegant interior.
Highly functional are the three kitchen ventilated ceilings, which meet highest standards regarding air exhaust and odour removal. With low air velocities they provide comfort conditions for the kitchen personell and the guests and look classy at the same time. Fire safety is ensured by fire dampers, while built-in sound attenuators ensure a noise-free zone in the entire hotel area. The energy efficiency of the ventilation system is supported by VAV-systems, adapting the air flow to the actual needs.
The design of mechanical installations for Hotel Intercontinental started in June 2015, and by May 2016 the individual elements of the ventilation system were defined and confirmed. The project was provided by one of the most prominent design companies in Slovenia, the Biro 360. "We have been working with you for many years now and we have detailed knowledge of the technical characteristics and advantages of your products, as well as the possibilities offered by selection programs," says Robert Krese, senior HVAC designer. Rudi Grahek, responsible for the design of mechanical installations, adds: "So far, we have successfully cooperated in high-profile projects such as the Situla residential and business complex in the center of Ljubljana or a tailor made solution for the luxury yacht Soraya 46. For the Intercontinental hotel we can say that from a technical point of view, it represents an exceptionally good cooperation between the investor, architect, supplier, installing company and us, since the technical guidelines and specific project-based recommendations were taken into account at all stages of the project. Without interfering with the elegant architectural design, we have achieved the maximum functionality of the ventilation system, which provides a high-level indoor climate and is energy-efficient at the same time. We are proud to have been able to co-create a hotel that since its opening in September 2017 has received such impressive ratings of visitors and reached international recognition. The machine room, located on the 22nd floor of the hotel, i.e. technical floor, can be cited as a model example of a modern engineering solution, which we also visualized in a 3D model.«
»We are cooperating with your company for many years now, especially when it comes to complex projects like this luxury hotel, where the technical and architectural demands are on a very high level«, says the technical director of installer company Klima Ptuj, Mr Robert Kolarič. »We know, that we can count on competent technical support throughout the whole process and it is so much easier for us to work with a full HVAC product range supplier«.Photo source: www.ihg.com
